A WOMAN from Colwyn Bay is taking on a “plank challenge” throughout the month of September in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Monika Walker, who runs Indulge Restaurant in Llandudno and Number 8 dessert and cocktail bar in Deganwy, is completing the challenge for two minutes each day this month to raise money for the charity.
The plank challenge a bodyweight exercise designed to target your core, but that also engages your glutes, back, quads, shoulders, biceps and triceps.
So far, Monika has raised £400 for Cancer Research UK, having set herself a donations target of £500.
She said: “I’m doing some planks with special people and in special places, including at Llandudno Fire Station, and in one of the nursing homes where I’ve worked.
“It’s not for me; it’s for a good cause. I think it’s quite amazing that we raised £400 in the first week.
“It’s a struggle. It’s not an easy thing to do, especially to hold it for two minutes, but I still do it every day. And I know it’s for a good cause, which definitely motivates me.
“I chose Cancer Research because we don’t know how many people are battling cancer, so if we can help fund research to find a cure for this disease, I think we should all chip in.”
