A PUB in Llandudno which opened less than a year ago has been crowned the cider pub of the year for North Wales.
Cask & Apple, at 29 Mostyn Avenue, Craig-y-Don, was named ‘CAMRA North Wales Cider Pub of the Year’ at an awards ceremony last night (August 29).
It also picked up the ‘Abercolwyn CAMRA Branch Cider Pub of the Year’ award.
A real ale and cider bar, Cask & Apple opened in December 2023 and is run by John and Sharon Sumbland.
The couple had previously run the Penrhyn Arms in Penrhynside for several years, where they gained an stellar reputation for selling excellent cask beer and cider.
Throughout their tenure at the Penrhyn Arms, the pub was ever-present in CAMRA’s best-selling Good Beer Guide and received many CAMRA awards for beer and cider, including reaching the National Cider Finals on no less than four occasions.
When they opened their new venture at the end of 2023, the name Cask & Apple was the obvious choice, concentrating as they do in offering a great selection of ales, ciders and perries.

A CAMRA spokesperson said: “It was no great surprise when they recently picked up not one but two awards for cider after being open for slightly less than a year.
“They were awarded firstly the Abercolwyn CAMRA Branch Cider Pub of the Year making them the best cider pub in the county of Conwy but they then went on to win the overall North Wales Cider Pub of the Year.
“The pub was packed on the night of the presentation with locals and CAMRA members alike and Sharon had even provided sausages cooked in cider to add to a great atmosphere on a wonderful night.”
