Aspiring construction workers in North Wales have gained invaluable experience in developments, thanks to Denbighshire-based Wynne Construction.
Since 2024, Wynne Construction has provided 40 work experience placements, offering practical insight into the construction and built environment industry.
These placements have proved vital for learners, such as 16-year-old Lara Cadmore.
After home school GCSEs, Ms Cadmore enjoyed a placement at Wynne Construction's £2.7m children’s regional assessment centre, Bwthyn Y Ddôl.
Ms Cadmore said: "I enjoyed every element of the placement, where I could combine the creative skills I’ve developed in woodwork classes with my love for outdoor activities.
"It was a change to go from home learning to being part of a busy site, and my highlight was certainly collaborating with the team, as well as seeing how everyone’s job is connected, despite there being so many different roles."
The company helped her in getting a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
Furthering its commitment to young learners, Wynne Construction teamed up with Coleg Cambria for the Placement Enhanced Project.
The project aims to provide 50-hour placements to students, like Cameron Cohen, studying the BTEC Level 3 national foundation diploma in construction and the built environment.
He said: "Having the knowledge and expertise on hand to ask questions and learn from a supportive team who cared about my development was really fulfilling."
For his keen interest in design, the team paired Mr Cohen with architecture firm TACP to complete his placement hours.
Lauren Pringle, review and placement officer at Coleg Cambria, emphasised the importance of placements.
She said: "Having companies like Wynne Construction partner with us to give learners insight is invaluable for their development.
"We’re looking forward to seeing more students on site across the summer."
Wynne Construction social value manager Jodi Hamilton said: “Giving pupils a look into life on site will build confidence and help them better visualise a career for themselves, as well as highlight the variety of roles and responsibilities in the sector.
“In addition to working with fantastic education providers, we’re committed to supporting people of all backgrounds, including helping ex-offenders and veterans obtain experience and transition back into employment."
