A WOMAN from Kinmel Bay became the first to ride a horse and carriage to a Gwrych Castle wedding earlier this month.

Rachel Campbell and her husband, Richard, wed at the castle on August 17, and though weddings were held at the venue before, Rachel said she was the first to ride a horse and carriage there.

Their wedding was followed by their reception at The Yacht, Pensarn.

She said: “What a wonderful day August 17 was for me and my husband!

“The weather kept dry for us while riding through Abergele on a horse and carriage that was 150 years old, pulled by two lovely horses.

“I felt like the queen – it was beautiful!

“We had the best time ever; from meeting five years ago, we fell in love instantly, and that will never change .

“Gwrych Castle was amazing, and so was the reception at The Yacht.”

Rachel previously told the Journal that she and Richard decided to meet after “two weeks of chatting”, and have subsequently “been together ever since”.

They decided they “wanted to do something different” for their wedding, before Richard suggested the idea of Rachel arriving by horse and carriage.

She added: “We have both had traumatic relationships in our past and we felt that we were good together. We are both Leo star sign, and a couple of years apart in age.

“Richard is fantastic; he helps me as I struggle with everyday things. He is amazing; he tells me he loves me every day, which is so sweet.”

The first civil wedding ceremony took place at Gwrych Castle last year, when Rhyl couple Jill Adamson and her partner Nick Clitheroe tied the knot on May 19, 2023.

Gwrych Castle is known for being hosting the 2020 and 2021 series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
