STORM Lilian has brought with it a number of flooding and wind warnings in the coastal areas of North Wales this morning (August 23).
The Met Office warned yesterday that, between 5am and 11am today, the storm would bring strong winds, which may lead to disruption to travel and infrastructure.
Per Natural Resources Wales, flood alerts are also currently in place in the following areas:
- Glaslyn and Dwyryd Catchment - Areas around the river Glaslyn and river Dwyryd, from Dyffryn Ardudwy to Nant Gwynant
- Dysynni Catchment - Areas around the river Dysynni from Tywyn to Minffordd
- Conwy Catchment - Areas around the river Conwy from Dolwyddelan to Conwy
Though, river levels are showing a decrease (Glaslyn at Beddgelert - 1.445m at 9.45am; Conwy at Cwmlanerch - 2.802m at 9.45am).
Natural Resources Wales said: “Rainfall is currently affecting this area. River Levels are above normal levels. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
In the Met Office’s warning, which it said will affect Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd and Anglesey, it added: “Whilst there remains some uncertainty about the details, some very strong winds are likely to develop, with gusts widely in the 50-60mph range, with a lower chance that a small core of winds gusting 65-75 mph, perhaps 80 mph, could push quickly east during the morning.
“If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves. Even from the shore large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea.
“Take care if walking near cliffs; know your route and keep dogs on a lead. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
