WORK ON the Old Colwyn promenade continues following the completion of the reinforced sea wall.

The promenade and coastal path reopened in April, with work on the site past the three-year mark.

The nearly £18million project began in May 2021, and has included building a 720m long rock barricade in front of the existing seawall using 160,000 tonnes of rock, raising the promenade and road by 1.5 metres, and adding a fishing platform and new beach access steps.

The promenade road initially closed in May 2021 for an 18-month period, before Conwy County Borough Council secured extra funding to complete all the work required on this stretch, extending the project to 2024.

Now, with work on the rock armour and resurfacing complete, all that remains is the installation of permanent handrails, which the council said would take place in the "coming weeks".

A Conwy County Borough Council spokesperson said: "Our contractors have completed the extra rock armour and resurfacing work on Old Colwyn promenade, by the Rotary Way entrance.

"The path is now open.

"We've added 130m of rock armour to protect the Victoria seawall.

"Permanent handrails will be installed in the coming weeks."
