THE only fair in North Wales dedicated to the sale of collectable postcards will be held on Saturday (August 17).

The North Wales Postcard Fair will be held at the Craig-y-Don Sports and Community Centre, on Queens Road - doors will be open to the public between 9.30am and 3pm.

Admission to the event costs £2.

This annual event, organised by the North Wales Postcard Club, has attracted 16 dealers so far, some from North Wales and others from the midlands and north west of England.

Postcards of interest to the casual visitor and also the serious collector will be on sale.

Anyone interested in postcard views of locations far and wide, or maybe real photographs of shop fronts, ships and boats, horses and farming and all other conceivable subjects will fill boxes and albums for visitors to browse at their leisure.

Illustrated cards, including drawn and coloured art cards, advertising cards of all kinds, and of course favourites such as greeting and comic postcards will be available.

All ages, levels of experience and interests will be catered for, with the possibility of finding cards for as little as 50p.

Postcards from the early part of the 20th century are expected to attract most attention, but cards from all periods up to contemporary examples can usually be found in dealers’ stocks.

Anyone new to the hobby of collecting postcards may make themselves known to North Wales Postcard Club members, identified by their lanyards on the day, who will point the unacquainted visitor in the right direction and make for an enjoyable start to their day.

Light refreshments will be available from the community centre kitchen, with club member Marion meeting everyone’s needs with teas, coffees, cold drinks, filled sandwiches and cakes.

This facility will allow the postcard hunters to rest for a short break, or maybe chat to other visitors about their finds on the day, before continuing

Event organiser Karlyn Goulborn said: “The North Wales Postcard Club is proud to be able to hold a postcard fair in Llandudno again.

“Club members have all joined in to make the preparations as thorough as possible.

“We are very pleased with the dealers who have supported us, with some being very well known in postcard-collecting circles - three dealers will appear at the North Wales Postcard Fair for the first time.

“A feast of enjoyment awaits collectors and visitors.

“Anyone interested in local or family history, has an interest in a particular hobby - from films, sport or animals, or maybe someone who is visiting Llandudno and simply calls in to see what’s going on, will all be very welcome.”
