A GIRL from Colwyn Bay will be tandem cycling across Holland with her dad for charity later this month.

Gary Mahon and his 10-year-old daughter, Aurora, will set off on August 23, before covering a few hundred kilometres unsupported across seven days from where their ferry stops in Rotterdam.

Their journey, which will take them across the German border and beyond, is in aid of The Little Princess Trust - a charity providing free real-hair wigs to people up to the age of 24 who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Aurora, a pupil at Ysgol Pen Y Bryn, chose the charity after hearing some of its inspiring stories while at school.

Gary said: “I have organised a few charity fundraising challenges in the past, but this year, my daughter said she would like to do something together.

“She wanted to choose something that would make a real difference for people.

“They are a fantastic charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions such as alopecia.

“The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.”

Gary added: “I have always wanted us to do a fundraiser together and when she came up with the idea of getting a tandem, I thought it was a brilliant idea.

“The training rides up and down the promenade, from Colwyn Bay to Prestatyn, have been going well - the tandem makes quite an impact!

“The training has been hard work and the distances are a little daunting, but spending all of that time together laughing and joking as we cycle along has been my favourite bit so far.

“I can't wait for the ride now!”
