A COMMUNITY centre in Llandudno has heightened its security measures.
Ty Hapus Community Resource Centre and Foodbank, based on Ffordd Penrhyn, said that its decision to do so follows the “recent tragic events in Southport”.
Incidents of disorder have taken place across the UK in the last week, initially in Southport on July 30, following a multiple stabbing in the town a day earlier.
Axel Rudakubana, 17, has since been charged with murdering three girls and attempting to murder 10 other people at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport.
A statement from Ty Hapus read: “In light of recent tragic events in Southport, we have been asked if we are increasing security measures at the centre.
“Ty Hapus is a safe indoor facility with 24-hour CCTV inside and out.
“When staff and volunteers are in the building, there will be a doorbell system, and you will be let in and out.
“All coaches/youth workers etc will lock the door as they start, so please get their mobile number, and if the session has started, you will need to ring to be let in.
“We have always taken the safety of users/staff/volunteers seriously and will continue to do so.”
Activities hosted by Ty Hapus include a youth club, amateur boxing, a parent and toddler group, and karate.
