The UK's top 150 campsites have been named - and 13 of them are right here in North Wales!

While our reputation precedes us as a holiday destination for everything from wild camping to static caravanning, camping and glamping booking platform Campsites.co.uk's 2024's Outstanding Campsites list has recognised six sites in Gwynedd, two each in Anglesey, Denbighshire and Clwyd and one in Wrexham as being among the best in Britain.

The best places in North Wales' for camping

Gwynedd

1: Graig Wen

Overlooking the Mawddach Estuary between seaside Barmouth and historic Dolgellau in the Eryri National Park, the views at Graig Wen are breathtaking. Close to Cader Idris but with easy access to sandy beaches, castles, steam trains, biking and Zip World, Graig Wen offers a place to recharge whether you're camping or glamping in yurts, bell tents or its chic shepherd's hut.

Visitors are huge fans too, rating it 4.87 stars out of five on Campsites.co.uk, with 95% saying they would recommend the site.

2: Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts

Crowned the Best Glamping site in North Wales in the Camping and Glamping Awards, Brook Cottage has an almost-perfect 4.95 star rating. Situated in the west of Gwynedd, on the Llyn Peninsula, it overlooks a private lake with fantastic mountain views. You can glamp it up with your own luxury ensuite, kitchen, al fresco dining area and more in its static accommodation. 

3: Bwch yn Uchaf

The popular spot in Bala is a favourite with stargazers due to the lack of light pollution - even winning the Camping and Glamping Award for Best Dark Skies. Just 10 minutes from Llyn Tegid and adjacent to the River Twrch it's perfect for families who want to have a wild splash. Fancy resting your walking legs? Bala Lake Railway is just next door.

4: Cae Du

The Beddgelert site sits right at the foot of Yr Wyddfa and, with its onsite lake and river, it's a natural haven. If you need to restock supplies it's only 10 minutes walk from Beddgelert and there's fishing on site too - helping it earn a 4.82 star rating from guests.

5: Llys Derwen

With both electric and non-electric pitches for tourers, this site in Llanrug is just 10 minutes from Caernarfon in the foothills of Yr Wyddfa. A family-friendly site, it lies just 20 minutes from attractions like Caernarfon Castle, the National Slate Museum and Beacon Climbing Centre.

6: Nantcol Waterfalls

Visitors to this site near Llanbedr love it - in fact 93% would recommend it. Handy for the popular Shell Island, it is also a great place for wild swimming, campfires or a trip to the beach. On-site glamping options are also available.

Anglesey

1: Ael y Garnedd

Rated 4.83 stars by visitors, Ael y Garnedd offers campers breathtaking views over Eryri's mountains and is just 20 minutes from the beach. With both electric grass pitches and fully serviced hardstanding pitches for tourers and trailer tents, it's a great spot to launch an exploration of all North Wales has to offer. 

2: Pods Pwll Coch

Book a deluxe glamping lodge in Amlwch on a real working farm with Pods Pwll Coch. These luxury living spaces are each equipped with TV and wifi and have hot tubs, a firepit,  barbecue and pizza oven. This is taking glamping to a whole other level. Close enough to the countryside to escape if you want to and close enough to Anglesey's more urban areas if you prefer, it's no wonder this site has a 100% recommendation rating.

Denbighshire

1: Abbey Farm

The Best Caravan Park in North Wales in the 2023 Camping and Glamping Awards, this Rhuddlan site is another found on  a working farm. Tourers, camper vans and mobile homes are all welcome - as are families - and there are three bookable glamping pods, if you need a little home comfort.  

2: Gaerhyfryd

Situated near Corwen and roughly half an hour from Eryri National Park, Gaerhyfryd has 37 hardstanding serviced pitches with electricity, water, TV connections and drainage. Awnings and open fires are not permitted, but barbecues are and visitors seem to like the rules, rating it 4.84 stars as 98% say they would recommend it. 

Conwy

1: Three Streams

Five-star rated glamping can be found at Three Streams. Despite 100% of visitors saying they would recommend it and giving it a top score, last year it was runner up in the Best Glamping Sites category. Nevertheless visitors love the adult-only site, with its private hot tubs, ensuite's and smart TVs.

2: Trwyn yr Wylfa

Couched in 10 acres of land near Penmaenmawr, Treyn has a glorious view out over the sea. It has plenty of space, with electrical pitches for 40 tourers and another 30 non-electrical grass pitches. Those stunning views can be enjoyed with a barbecue and dogs are also allowed but be aware, Trwyn is on a hill and pitches may slope a little so double-check tour caravan is secure!

Wrexham

1: The furthest north and east of Campsite.co.uk's top sites in the region, Plassey is the only one overlooking the Dee Valley. With 30 deluxe hard standing pitches and 20 premium, there's a lot f luxury to go round at Plassey. Add to that glamping options that include lodges and safari tents plus a swimming pool, golf, adventure playground and a shopping village, Plassey is great for casual campers and families.
