A WOMAN who opened a beauty and sports massage salon in Colwyn Bay a year ago marked its first anniversary with a special event, which raised almost £2,000 for a charity.
Trish Zulu, originally from Zambia, opened Ulemu on Greenfield Road at the start of last August, having been self-employed in the industry for more than seven years prior.
To celebrate a year of the salon being open, it hosted a fundraiser event on Saturday (August 3), which has so far raised more than £1,800 for WaterAid.

A charity working to help people have access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, Trish said it is a cause “close to my heart due to their incredible work in Africa and worldwide”.
She moved to the UK from Zambia in August 1998 when she was 13.
The fundraiser event, meanwhile, featured food, drinks, and a unique charity waxing event.
Volunteers had the opportunity to be waxed at the event by anyone willing to donate £5 for two waxing strips.
Trish said: “We’ve raised over £1,800 so far, and are still receiving donations. The Pump House (Rhos-on-Sea) has been amazing in helping us achieve this event.
“I would also like to thank my team at Ulemu for all of their help; I couldn’t have done it without them.”
After working in care for several years, Trish trained in sports and massage therapy, and began her career at Bodysgallen Hall.
Eventually, she ventured into business on her own, renting premises before getting the opportunity to purchase her salon on Greenfield Road.
Trish told the Pioneer last week: “We opened Ulemu Hair, Beauty & Sports Massage last year, and despite the tough times, we've been thriving.
“I specialise in sports massage and work with a team of five self-employed professionals specialising in hair, nails, Botox, massage, and facials.”
