FRIENDS from social groups across Llandudno came together to mark the 87th anniversary of the opening of Craig-y-Don paddling pool with a charity wade.
Organised by Glenys Rowlett, the event brought together older residents from Llandudno Meet Ups, Llandudno's Nextdoor Group and Matty's Coffee Club to celebrate the re-opening of Craig-y-Don after 18 months of restoration work.
Opened in 1937, Craig-Y-Don paddling pool is free to use and is a popular summer meeting spot, with views overlooking the Great Orme.
To mark the event, Glenys and her friends decided to dress up in period bathing suits - harking back to the days when men were not allowed to bare their chests ad boaters and bonnets were considered essential swimwear.
"It was a fun idea to get everyone together and celebrate this amazing community facility we have in Llandudno," said Glenys.
"When I was telling people about the idea one person dared me £50 that we wouldn't dress in costume, so decided to take that and collect money for charity."
The wade along the length of the pool raised just over £320 for Hope Restored Food Bank and the North Wales Air Ambulance.
"It was lovely, because we brought people from all these different groups together at this special place," said Glenys.
"There are a lot of older people here in Llandudno who have moved here because they have fond memories of holidaying with their parents here. Unfortunately that can often mean that, as we all get older, some people become lonely as they may have moved from elsewhere or their partners may have passed away.
"Fortunately we have these groups that each meet up weekly around town for lunch, a coffee or tea where we can make new friends. We've got a wonderful supportive community here. To come together to have a little fun and do some good is fantastic.
"There is too much negativity around. We saw how long the pool took to restore, including how hard the contractors were working. We wanted to mark the reopening and the anniversary with something positive to move forward."
They were joined on the day by Janet Finch-Saunders, AS for Aberconwy.
"It is wonderful to see Craig-y-Don open again and being used by people of all ages to have fun and do good and I'm proud to come here and support this fantastic fun effort."
