A MAN was told “we’re not a taxi service” when he asked North Wales Police for help getting home from Llandudno Junction.
The force shared a recording of the phone call the man made to its control room, in which he said he was “stuck in Junction” and had “no money”.
You can listen to the call below:
NWP: Police emergency, how can I help?
Caller: Sorry to bother yous, but can I ask if you’re able to help me out a little bit to get home? I’ve got no money, and I’m stuck in (Llandudno) Junction.
NWP: We’re not a taxi service. You need to either contact a taxi, or family or friends, to try and help you.
Caller: Oh, but everyone’s sleeping.
NWP: Yeah, unfortunately, you need to –
Caller: Alright, it’s no worries. It was worth a try.
The force shared the recording of the call to remind residents not to use emergency services to ask for a lift home.
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again… North Wales Police taxi service is officially closed (not that it was ever open in the first place).
“If you’re off on a night out, please make sure you have a lift home or enough money for a taxi… it’s definitely not ‘worth a try’ to tie up an emergency line asking for a lift.
“The emergency 999 line should only be used if:
- “A life is in danger, or someone is being physically threatened, or if you are witnessing a crime happening at the time, or think the offenders are still nearby
- “You witness or are involved in a serious road traffic collision where someone is badly injured, or other vehicles are causing an obstruction or a danger to other road users.
“Please, help us to help you.”
