A WOMAN from Abergele has opened a new winery in the town, and will soon also be welcoming customers to a bakery next door to it.
Linda Dykes, who has also run Diamond Cleaning in Abergele for the last 15 years, celebrated opening The Winery (Y Gwindy), on Market Street, at 6pm on Friday (July 26) with the town’s deputy mayor, Cllr Tracey Brennan.
The opening featured a “star-studded line-up of celebrity guest singers” - among those entertaining visitors was Dene Michael, the former lead vocalist of Black Lace.
There was also Rhyl-born Sami Brooks, a X Factor finalist in 2011, and Herbie Graham and his wife who were on hand to “entertain with North Wales' finest music”.
Linda hailed an “absolutely fabulous night” at The Winery, which was followed by a special ‘80s-themed evening on Saturday,
She said: “We’ve had an absolutely amazing response so far. People are loving it; this is what the town needed. I’ve found a niche in the market and taken it.
“They are all loving the décor here - quite a lot of people are saying that you walk in, and feel a warmth.
“My highlight of Friday was getting all of the acts to perform ‘A Night to Remember’ together. Sami Brooks was absolutely fabulous and went above and beyond, introducing all of the acts.
“I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
It is hoped that The Bakery, taking on the premises previously occupied by Cumberland House Bakery, will open in the coming weeks.
The Winery will be serving customers for four a week; it is not offering meals, but provides cheese and charcuterie boards and more, which can be adapted to the customer’s preference.
There is also an outdoor seating area at the front of The Winery.
Diamond Cleaning is still running as normal, meanwhile, despite Linda’s new business ventures.
