Elderly residents at a care home in Llandudno enjoyed a day trip to a local distillery.
Accompanied by the home’s activities coordinator, the residents at RMBI Care Co. Home Queen Elizabeth Court spent the day at Penderyn Distillery, which has been around for more than 100 years.
The residents learned the distinct heritage and craftsmanship of Welsh whisky and how the village of Penderyn was chosen because of its source of fresh natural spring water.
They were treated to a tasting session of whiskey.
Phyllis Ann, one of the residents, said: "It was my first time visiting a distillery and I enjoyed it very much.
"We were spoiled with a few whiskeys, gin and tonics.
"I wouldn’t mind doing a second visit soon."
The excursion was not only entertaining but also beneficial in improving social interactions among the elderly participants.
It was an opportunity to combat isolation, improve social skills, and gain new experiences.
Rachael, the activities coordinator, said: “I wanted to give our residents a unique experience and this is an old tradition going back centuries from when the distillery first opened.
“It provided residents with an insight into how it all began, like taking a step back in time. It was heart-warming to see the residents enjoying themselves.”
