THE TENNIS courts at Bodlondeb Park in Conwy have officially reopened following a £108,000 renovation, which was fully funded by the LTA Tennis Foundation.

The courts, which are jointly managed by the LTA and Conwy County Borough Council, have undergone extensive work to ensure its viability, including resurfacing, new nets and a new gate system.

This nationwide programme of investment is seeing thousands of existing park tennis courts in poor or unplayable condition brought back to life for the benefit of communities across the country, providing vital opportunities for children and adults to get active.

The courts at Bodlondeb Park will be free to use between 7am and 9am and 1pm and 2pm every day.

A £4 per hour per court charge will apply at other times.

Courts will be bookable online via the LTA Play Tennis website, with Annual Tennis Passes available at £39 per household per year - fees will ensure that the courts can be properly maintained in the years to come.

Sarah Ecob, head of economy and culture for Conwy County Borough Council, said: “We are very grateful to the LTA for their support and funding that has enabled this refurbishment.

"Tennis is a great sport for people of all ages and abilities, and it has many benefits for physical and mental health.

"We hope that these refurbished courts will inspire more people book a court and enjoy the game."

Cllr Aaron Wynne, Conwy County Borough Council cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “Players have already been enjoying these refurbished facilities over the last few weeks, and I’m delighted to mark the official opening of the courts.

"This partnership with the LTA means that we’re able to provide excellent quality amenities for players.

"One of the objectives of our Corporate Plan is that people are heathy, and having access to facilities and sessions like these is great to help keep people active.”

Julie Porter, Chief Operating Officer at the LTA, said: “After months of hard work, we’re delighted to see the park tennis courts in Conwy officially back open to the public, and in better shape than ever.

“Public tennis courts are such vital facilities for getting active and we want as many people as possible, of all ages and abilities, to pick up a racket and enjoy playing tennis.

"Thanks to this investment the sport will be opened up to more players, for years to come.”
