GILL German, the newly elected Labour MP for Clwyd North, has said she will be continuing as a county councillor in Denbighshire until the end of July, but “without financial allowance”.
Ms German was elected as the new constituency’s MP at the start of July, winning 14,794 votes and beating second-placed Darren Millar (Conservative) by a margin of 1,196.
She was serving as Denbighshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for education, children and families up until her election.
Cllr Julie Matthews and Cllr Diane King have since been appointed as her replacements, as deputy leader and cabinet member for education, children and families respectively.

Ms German said: “I have been delighted to see Cllr Matthews appointed as deputy leader, and Cllr King appointed as lead member for education, children and families at Denbighshire County Council this week.
“I have loved being in these roles and have every faith in Julie and Diane as I hand over the reins since becoming MP for Clwyd North.
“To enable a smooth handover and complete any ongoing casework, I will be continuing as county councillor until the end of the month, but without financial allowance, which has been relinquished from the date of election as MP.
“Thank you so much to my fellow Welsh Labour councillors, other elected members, officers and staff at Denbighshire County Council for a great two-and-a-bit years.
“It hasn’t been without its challenges, but I am proud of what we have achieved and look forward to working in partnership in Denbighshire as MP for Clwyd North.”
Ms German, whose constituency comprises parts of Denbighshire and Conwy, formerly worked as a teacher.
She said following her election: "If you voted Labour for the first time today, thank you for putting your trust in me, and thank you for voting for the change we need.
“I will work as hard as I possibly can to deliver it.”
