INVESITGATION WORK is set to be carried out on the Llandudno Colonnades ahead of the repair and refurbishment of the Grade II listed structure.

Last year, the local authority secured £300,000 of Welsh Government funding to carry out repairs and a refurbishment to areas of Llandudno, including Llandudno Colonnades.

Now, the next stage of the project will see up to two weeks of work to help plan the site’s refurbishment.

The council said this may cause “some disruption” with regards to access.

The two-tier structure was opened in 1932 by Mostyn Estates, but has been poorly maintained, with damage to stonework and ironwork in disrepair.

The Colonnades offer beautiful views of the town, pier and North Shore, and is set to become a hive for evening markets and street performers.

Conwy County Council had appointed Flint-based Oneday Consultants in 2022 to produce a feasibility study on potential uses for the Colonnades, with an aim to improving the resort’s night-time economy and year-round tourism.

Ideas from members of the public included crazy golf, an adventure playground, rock climbing, zip lines, a musical playscape, an obstacle course, plug and play stages, and parkour apparatus.

A Conwy County Borough Council spokesperson said: “We’ll be carrying out some investigation work at the Colonnades in Llandudno for the next couple of weeks to help us plan refurbishment work.

“There may be some disruption to access at times – we apologise for any inconvenience.”
