RESIDENTS of Llandudno will be feeling a sense of relief as Craig-y-Don paddling pool is in the process of being filled.

Workers were spotted at the site on July 8, with the pool set to be filled by the end of today (July 10), with the work requiring up to 48 hours to complete.

Sarah Woods, who works at the nearby Coast café and bar, saw workers at the site on Monday and captured the work being undertaken.

Ms Woods told the Pioneer: "They had just started filling it as I took the picture.

"It should be filled by around five today - it takes 48 hours to fill."

Conwy County Borough Council came under heavy criticism last year after revealing that the paddling pools would not re-open that summer due to a high risk of people slipping.

According to a Freedom of Information request, pendulum 'slip tests' were carried out on the paddling pools in January 2023 and subsequent reports were received in February 2023.

But despite the paddling pools in Rhos-on-Sea, Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr reopening a month ago, no opening date has been slated for the Craig-y-Don pool.

The council said that the remaining work required an “extended period of dry weather” in order to be completed – something it has had this week.

They added that they were “aware of the need to complete [the work] as swiftly as possible”.

Conwy County Borough Council has been approached for comment.
