A SEAFRONT hotel in Llandudno could be set for an expansion, after a planning application was submitted.

The Grade II listed Llandudno Bay Hotel, on the promenade, could see the conversion of its lower ground floor rooms into six additional bedrooms, all complete with en suites.

The planned work would also see a renovation, the replacement of windows and doors to elevations on the lower ground floor and ground floor.

The hotel has already cut its carbon footprint and running costs as part of a “green revolution”.

Highly rated, Llandudno Bay Hotel was recently honoured at the international Lux Life Travel and Tourism Awards.

Grade II listed Llandudno hotel could reopen four years after closure

Victorian-era Llandudno hotel re-opens following extensive revamp

As a result of the raft of eco-friendly initiatives at the premises, owners the Everbright Group were crowned Sustainable Luxury Hotel Group of the Year.

It was also named as the Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Hotel of the Year 2023 at the Go North Wales Tourism Awards.

In a heritage statement supporting the proposal, Hinchliffe Heritage said: “The building has multiple heritage significances, it was built in at least two phases and has undergone a few changes but there is potential for careful intervention.

“The proposal will sustain the fundamental appearance and significance of the listed building, its setting and the Llandudno conservation area.”

When the Everbright Group took over the hotel in 2021, it had been closed for over two years, there was no hot water to the top floor and it was facing rocketing energy bills forecast to be more than £300,000.

Three years on the green refurbishment of the hotel has seen those bills slashed to just over £80,000.
