A MUCH-LOVED Police Dog (PD) is stepping down from the unit to put his paws up and enjoy retirement.
PD Draco has served within the Cheshire and North Wales Police Dogs Unit for the last six years.
The team is a collaboration between North Wales Police and Cheshire Constabulary to provide general purpose, firearms support and specialist search dogs.
These furry friends support officers' ranging policing activities – from tackling serious and organised crime to helping bring vulnerable people back to a place of safety.
Draco, a German Shepherd, has been described as a 'fantastic dog' by those who have worked alongside him.
He is officially stepping down from the unit this week.
A statement from the Cheshire and North Wales Police Dogs Unit read: "This week, after more than six years as a police dog, PD Draco is putting his paws up to enjoy his retirement.
"Draco has been a fantastic dog for us, first licensing in 2018 with PC Sheehan and then later qualifying as a Firearms Support Dog.
"Over the years he’s helped find many suspects and missing people, and will be a big loss to our section. Happy retirement, Draco! You deserve it!"
