NORTH WALES residents have spoken about their experiences of being caught up in the 'chaos' at Manchester Airport over the weekend.

The airport announced it was experiencing a “major power cut” on Sunday morning (June 23), causing major delays and cancellations to flights, and affecting some flights which were already bound for their destinations.

The airport issued a statement this morning (June 24), to state that operations were back up and running and urged passengers to "prepare to travel as usual".

But thousands remained affected early on Monday, with some waiting for alternative flights and others who managed to take off finding their luggage was not put on the plane.

Some of our readers have been getting in touch to share their experiences of being caught up in the situation.

Hannah Davies, from Wrexham, said: "We flew with Jet2 to Corfu at 11.30am on Sunday, having been due to take off at 7.20am, but we had to fly and leave our luggage behind, it's been an absolute shambles. We've arrived in Corfu with no suitcases just the clothes on our backs!"

Tracy Jones from Rhos said: "We got on the plane this morning from Venice and had to get off. Thankfully they put our luggage back through. We found a hotel ourselves and flights for Thursday back."

Wendy Ogden-Marsden, from Rhyl, said: "We were caught up in it. Email from TUI at 1am saying 6.45 flight now departing at 7.55am but go to airport same time. Already checked in online. Got there at 5 and it was chaos.

"Every flight from midnight delayed so passengers backed up. Luggage in large amounts in areas on floor, waiting to be loaded. Gate announced at 6.30 but waited at gate till 9 with no information at all. Four TUI flights all due from 6 - 7am with passengers waiting.

"A TUI pilot made an announcement then saying it was because baggage handlers couldn't get bags on, causing delays. Finally on our plane our pilot said SOME bags didn't make it on. We got to Menorca three hours late to be told NO bags were put on the flight.

"We only had hand luggage but family with us have arrived with no clothes and unable to buy their sizes here. Some families had no baby milk, no medication, no money to buy stuff."

Wendy added "there were lots of angry people in Menorca Airport" and there had been no update on when luggage would arrive.

"We will have to go home tomorrow if it doesn't. Spoilt our holiday so far!"

Louise Carroll, also from Rhyl, said: "It's still ongoing. We stood around for hours from 5am this morning, even told our flight wasn't cancelled just delayed... then after about four hours they told us it was cancelled and basically go home. No info at all, no communication and no staff around to explain what was going to happen."

Kinga Prucnal from Flintshire told us: "Was absolute chaos getting back to Liverpool last night. Many flights re-directed there instead so the staff couldn't cope."

In their latest statement issued on the situation, Manchester Airport said: "All our systems are running as normal today (June 24), so passengers are advised to prepare to travel as usual from Manchester Airport.

"That means going online to check the status of your flight before you leave, then following your airline's instructions in terms of when to arrive at the airport - usually two hours for short-haul and three hours for long-haul.

"The airport is likely too be slightly busier than usual due to passengers affected by cancellations yesterday, but we have extra staff in place and our resilience team is helping out."
