THE refurbishment of a derelict former site of a hotel in Llandudno into a new “aparthotel” is on course to be completed later this summer.

Previously The Woodlands Hotel, 47-49 Trinity Avenue was bought by Chester-based entrepreneur Dave Goodfellow for £225,000 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Work started on refurbishing the site about a year ago, with Dave saying roughly £1million has been spent on bringing the property back up to scratch.

It will feature 11 apartments, comprising a mixture of Edwardian and contemporary designs, with six of them single-bed and the other five double-bed.

Daniel Margetts-Williams runs Margetts Williams Ltd, the subcontractors building the new aparthotel, with between 15 to 20 people working from his firm on the site.

At the top floor of the property is a two-bedroom “master apartment” featuring a media room, which Daniel labelled the aparthotel’s “pièce de resistance”.

He said it was a “no-brainer” to take on the project.

Daniel added: “We've been here since about last July. It's been an absolute labour of love from our side.

“When we started building the one-bedroom apartments, we thought they were tiny at first, but they're not too bad a size.”

In March, Dave told the Pioneer that the “nice, modern aparthotel” will not have a specific target audience, and will instead be aimed at anyone travelling to Llandudno.

He owns similar properties across the UK, and said prices for an apartment will vary between seasons, but likely start from roughly £80 a night.

He said: “It was an absolute eyesore on the road, and has been derelict for years.

“It’s going to be a fantastic new aparthotel, which we’re excited about, and we’ve had a lot of local teams working on it.

“Instead of having a restaurant and bar, we take that out and put rooms in there, but will still serve food through things like vending machines. It’s a modern twist on a hotel.

“It’s a fantastic old Victorian property that needed a lot of work doing to it. It was a good buy at the time, and has been a really exciting project for us to work on.”
