CONWY filmmaking talent is represented among the nominations at this year’s Into Film Awards, which are being held at the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square in London on June 25.

Among this year’s nominees are TAPE Community Music and Film from Old Colwyn for their film, Battery.

Putting a literal spin on the concept of a person's "social battery", the film explores the theme of anxiety and loneliness, following one young man’s struggles to find the connection that will keep him going as his battery depletes.

Many of the group that worked on the film are from Ysgol Y Gogarth, which is an additional learning needs school in Llandudno.

They have taken part in filmmaking projects and were keen to develop their skills and interests, linked to vocational development and opportunities after school.

Jessica Townend explained what went in to transforming Battery from an initial idea to a short-listed film.

She said: “My initial reaction to being nominated was just excitement, knowing that more people will be able to see the film that we have made and being able to see it on such a big screen.

“It was so much fun seeing it come to life and everyone involved had a role and put in 100 per cent effort.

“I think that filmmaking is important to me as it allows me to express my ideas creatively, in a visual form.

“It also allows me to connect with so many different people who share a similar interest and that’s such a rewarding experience when you finally see the end product.”

The Into Film Awards enable young people aged five to 19 to be creative and find a voice through practical filmmaking, and to make films about what matters to them.
