Dr Atenstaedt returned home to North Wales in 2002 after working away, and is a public health doctor.

His family is originally from Criccieth, Gwynedd, with his grandfather, group captain Leslie Bonnet, a duck breeder who was behind the creation of the Welsh Harlequin Duck.

Cllr Dr Rob Atenstaedt said: “It was a real honour for me to receive the award.

"25 years has gone in a flash.

"Last year we celebrated 75 years since the NHS was founded, so it is amazing to think that I have served for one third of its existence!”
