A Llandudno based independent living scheme is ready to celebrate its 10th anniversary thanks to a housing association’s new volunteering project, DIY SAS.

The North Wales Housing Association, ClwydAlyn, lent its hand to the independent living development, Tan y Fron, ahead of its upcoming anniversary.

The in-house volunteer group, the Sports and Social Committee (SAS), organised the project after debuting DIY SAS in April to give back to ClwydAlyn’s living schemes and societies.

In May a team of staff members volunteered to spruce up Tan y Fron in anticipation of the 10th-anniversary celebration happening on June 14.

During the visit, they tidied the communal garden, cut back shrubs, weeded out unwanted plants, and trimmed overgrown plants.

Firms such as Law Construction, Samco, and GE Tools also supported the clean-up.

Law Construction provided slate, Samco donated gloves for the volunteers, and GE Tools supplied 50 hi-vis vests with the DIY SAS logo.

Debjani Basu, Tan y Fron scheme manager said: "A massive thank you to the team that organised and volunteered on Saturday 18th May to spruce up our garden in Tan y Fron.

"This means so much to the staff and residents of Tan y Fron.

"The courtyard garden is the heart of Tan y Fron and it brings joy to all who live and work here."

Nigel Blackwell, ClwydAlyn’s plumbing and heating manager, said: "I left Tan y Fron on Saturday with a huge smile on my face, knowing we have made a big difference to so many people’s lives."

SAS member, Amy, reports that 44 members of staff have already signed up to volunteer for SAS.

Lisa, another member of SAS, said: "We have currently had nine project requests (including Tan y Fron) and we are excited to see the outcomes."
