FORMER changing rooms could be converted into a new workshop for Conwy’s harbour master helping deter anti-social behaviour, the council claim.

Matthew Forbes has applied to Conwy County Council’s planning committee, seeking permission for the change of use of former hockey changing rooms into a storage and workshop facility.

The changing rooms are at the recreation ground at the rear of 27 – 33 Dr Garrett’s Drive at the end of the Whinacres cul-de-sac, Conwy.

If the plans get the go-ahead, the converted building will be primarily used as a store for harbour and seaboard related items including noticeboards, deckchairs, anchors, and buoys.

Minor repairs could also be conducted to equipment inside of the building, such as painting replacement bench slats and bench refurbishment.

The plans for the conversion include new UPVC windows, security grilles to windows, and roller shutters, and external shutter boxes to two external doors.

Conwy Town Council says it has no objection to the application.

The application form states the new workshop facility would be used between 8am and 6pm.

The harbour master says the new workshop will help reduce anti-social behaviour.

The harbour master stated: “It is not anticipated that any noise or disturbance will be caused to the local residents by the proposed change of use. To the contrary, the refurbishment of the building will deter anti-social behaviour at the site.”

The application has been referred to the planning committee due to the plans relating to council land, but planning officers have recommended that the committee back the application.

The matter will be debated at planning committee meeting at Bodlondeb today.
