CONWY County Council has paid tribute to a popular Llandudno councillor who passed away this week.

Former council leader Ronnie Hughes served Conwy over three decades and was leader for five years and continued to serve the council until three years ago.

A spokeswoman for Conwy County Borough Council paid tribute to Mr Hughes.

“Everyone at Conwy County Borough Council is saddened by the news of the death of former councillor Ronnie Hughes,” she said.

“Ronnie was a member of Conwy County Borough Council from its inception in 1996 until he stepped down at the last election in 2022. He also served on the predecessor Aberconwy Borough Council.

“He was leader of Conwy County Borough Council from 1999 to 2004.”

She added: “A prominent figure for many years, he was a big presence in the council chamber and a passionate advocate for the people of Llandudno and Conwy county.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Liz and family.”
