A FOODBANK in Llandudno has made a fresh appeal for food and financial donations amid finding itself “at a crossroads”.

Conwy Food Bank, based at Lighthouse Community Church, shared a plea for items or money on social media on May 30.

It also shared a photo, highlighting the “stark reality of our continuously empty shelves”, and has set up a JustGiving page - www.justgiving.com/campaign/conwyfoodbank.

A statement from the foodbank read: “Our shelves at Conwy Food Bank are almost completely empty.

“After 10 years of servicing the community, the sight is more and more common, as the community becomes more and more hungry and in need.

“We are facing a crisis like never before. Foodbanks are becoming a fragile resource. The prospect of having to turn away families in desperate need is becoming all too real.

“We are at a crossroads, and we need your help more than ever. Without immediate and substantial support, our ability to provide this vital service is at risk.

“We implore you to act now. Every can, every box, every contribution can make a monumental difference.

“Your donation, no matter how small, can provide someone with the food and hope our community so desperately needs.

“Please, help us keep our doors open and our shelves stocked. Your generosity and kindness are the lifeline that keeps Conwy Food Bank alive.”

Alice James, a representative for Conwy Food Bank, added yesterday that, since the appeal was made, much more donations have been pledged.

The foodbank is part of The Sanctuary Trust charity, and Alice added that, out of all of its projects, this is the one most commonly needing to make appeals for donations.

She urged anyone who could donate food which has not passed its sell-by-date, pet food, money, or carrier bags, to do so if they are able.

Alice said: “We’ve had loads more donations since we put a post out about it – we’ve had 55 different offers to donate food and money since, and we’ve hit our £2,000 goal on JustGiving.

“There’s been such a good response. The emphasis is just on any food that’s not out of date – it doesn’t have to be tinned, or anything like that.

“It all goes out so quickly – food donated is often sent out within days, if not within 24 hours.

“Monetary donations also help with things like running and staffing costs, and carrier bags is another thing that we run short on quite often - we use them for food parcels.

“We get people all the time telling us how integral the foodbank is to them.”
