Rhyl boy walks Conwy’s three peaks in memory of late family friend

Freddie Jones, 14, headed to the summits of Conwy Mountain, the Great Orme and the Little Orme to raise money for MIND, an organisation which helps those with mental health issues.

The walk was in memory of Christian Smith, who was supported by MIND for some time prior to his death at the end of 2023, and whose brother, Adam, is Freddie’s godfather.

In total, Freddie walked 15 miles, comprising 37,086 steps, in a time of five hours and 17 minutes, and raised almost £600 - www.justgiving.com/page/lisa-jones-1713038415238.

Freddie, who is a pupil at Ysgol Glan Clwyd in St Asaph, surpassed his fundraising target, having been determined to complete the challenge despite struggling with knee and hip problems.

His mum, Lisa, said: “The walk went well - he's raised just under £600, and is waiting for a £50 donation to be added.

“Fred was supported on the walk by his big brother Jamie, his girlfriend Amber, me, his dad, and my two sisters, Sam and Lynds. 

“Christian used to send us weekly text messages, just telling us to ‘enjoy the weekend’, and things like that.

“His family waved us off at the start of the walk, and were there to meet Fred at the end, too. 

“Fred previously raised £1,000+ for Cancer Research by giving up sweets for a month, completing a triathlon, and organising ‘parents vs kids’ football matches.”
