A shop manager from Llandudno has been shortlisted for a prestigious award for her work in the charity sector.

Angela Minshull, who has run the Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children’s hospice shop on Llandudno’s Mostyn Street for the last nine years has made the list of finalists in the national Charity Retail Association Awards 2024.

Along with four others from around the UK, Angela will be up for the Retail Employee of the Year award at the ceremony held in the Harrogate Convention Centre on the 26th June.

Angela said: “I’m very passionate about Tŷ Gobaith.

“Knowing we’re supporting the children and families is really humbling and motivating.

“I had been a supporter during my previous role in a nearby card store, so when I saw the job advertised in the old shop window, it was too good not to go for.

“In total I’ve been here 13 and a half years and managed Llandudno’s new branch for the last nine.”

With more than 40 volunteers working various shifts and roles in the store, Llandudno is a busy and popular shop, one which Angela is very proud of.

“Our success really is down to the fantastic team.

“I’ve never known such supportive people and everybody is really committed.

“We really are a team here,” said Angela.

Angela had previously worked in corporate retail, but says of her work in the charity sector: “It’s a challenge as we never know what is coming through the door as stock.

“It could be anything from socks to an emerald ring.

“But ultimately is very rewarding for us all.”

On being nominated for the Award, Angela added: “I’m both shocked and delighted at the same time. I couldn’t do it without the support of the team here.”

Also nominated in the awards from Hope House Tŷ Gobaith is Margaret Yates from Bridgnorth, Shropshire who is up for Volunteer of the year.

Hope House Children's Hospices provide specialist nursing care and support to more than 750 children, and their families, who live in North and Mid Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire, They have two hospices, Tŷ Gobaith in the Conwy Valley and Hope House in Oswestry.

The Charity Retail Association is the primary membership association for all charity shops in the UK.
