A NEW sushi takeaway is set to open in Llandudno, after a planning application was approved.

The plans, submitted by Edvard Ivanian, will see the conversion of the former New Skin Tattoo Studio premises, at 57B Mostyn Avenue, into a takeaway.

At present, the restaurant will only be permitted to serve cold food, with no external area for food and drink provision until further approval is granted.

The plans have divided public opinion, with some residents in favour of a new takeaway in the area, while others say it impacts their quality of life.

The application was met with objection by residents Peter and Kathy Lacey, whose garden backs onto the site.

In written correspondence to the council, they said: “Our concern is that our gardens back immediately on to the shop intending to become a sushi takeaway.

“We were informed by other residents that food establishments were turned down in the past due to potential cooking smells emanating from kitchens.

“The position of the waste bins would also be of concern especially in the summer when we are sitting in our garden which we often do.

“This corner of Craig-y-Don is already busy and smelly bins are already an issue.

“Our quality of life as residents backing onto the property must be taken into consideration.”

Resident Haydn Sanford backed the plans, adding: “I think it’s a great idea and will help keep Craig-y-Don looking lovely (not empty shops) [sic] I’m all for it.”
