COLWYN Bay’s Pride event returned today (May 12) to the town’s promenade as a range of events and activities celebrated love, equality, and diversity.
Following on from the success of last year’s event, the first of its kind in Colwyn Bay, Pride included a variety of workshops and musical performances to help celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in the town.
It was once again organised by community group Together For Colwyn Bay, which formed in 2020 and strives to improve the town, and was hosted by drag artist The Royal Serenity.
Performing on the “main stage” on Colwyn Bay promenade, situated next to a rainbow balloon archway, were teenage musician Hannah Popey, Ghostbuskers, Magic Light Productions, and Beth McCan as Lady Gaga.
On the “pieramid stage” on the town’s pier, meanwhile, were dance and circus workshops for people to try out.
There were also a number of stalls set up along the prom, including from the likes of Sexual Health Wales, UNIQUE Transgender Network, Young Conwy, and Community and Voluntary Support Conwy.
Kai Davies, event manager, said: “We’d been asked by residents for quite a while to do something like this, so there was a lot of demand for it.
“It was well-received last year, when there was about 6,000 people; we got really good feedback from last year’s event, and today is definitely even busier than last year.
“This event is just about giving people a safe place to express and enjoy themselves, with no hatred. We’re here to look after them for the day, with some great entertainment on show, too.
“The most gratifying thing is just seeing people happy and smiling, enjoying themselves.”
