A "very drunk" man who came to a pub brandishing a large knife in each hand has been jailed.

Robert Hill, of Woodland Road East in Colwyn Bay, appeared for sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court on Friday afternoon.

The 23-year-old had previously admitted four offences of possessing a knife in public and one of affray.

Elen Owen, prosecuting, told the court that on April 12 this year, Hill was seen in the Station Pub in Colwyn Bay.

He was "very drunk," and was refused service.

The defendant then moved onto the Prince Madoc in Station Road.

Outside, he got into an altercation with another man, and was alleged to have thrown a glass at him.

Hill banged on the pub windows and shouted to the man: "Come outside or I'll smash the f****** windows."

He left the scene and went to a nearby bed and breakfast where he was staying.

He came back with four large kitchen knives, which he'd taken from the B&B's kitchen.

A group of young girls were outside the Prince Madoc when Hill returned, brandishing a blade in each hand.

In a CCTV clip played to the court, he could be seen waving the blades around as he hung around outside the pub, with other people trying to speak to him and prevent him from going back in.

Police arrived and Hill was arrested after a short chase.

He'd been seen putting something down a drain at an alley opposite the pub and further investigation revealed four knives had been put there.

Ms Owen said the defendant had created a serious risk of disorder by arming himself with four very dangerous weapons.

Dafydd Roberts, defending, said there was no basis of plea and the account his client gave in his pre-sentence report as to why he had the knives was "not pursued."

He explained: "Mr Hill accepts he will be sentenced on the basis he had the knives for confrontation, rather than self-harming.

"There can only be one sentence; immediate imprisonment.

"While he is 23 chronologically, he displays low maturity in the opinion of the probation officer.

"He is resolved to use his time in custody constructively.

"Possibly the best point I can make on his behalf is that he pleaded guilty at the first opportunity."

Judge Timothy Petts told the defendant: "Mr Hill, you were clearly very drunk.

"You returned to the pub brandishing a knife in each hand and continued to act aggressively.

"You had to be blocked from going back in and then you left; and tried to hide [the knives] down a drain.

"Clearly this is a very serious incident; so serious that only an immediate custodial sentence will do."

The Judge jailed hill for a total of 16 months.
