A “TOY library” has returned to Llandudno’s West Shore.

The box, set up by The Lilly restaurant beside the outdoor gym and children’s playground, is the latest initiative by Friends of the West Shore.

It was initially created last May, and proved hugely popular, before being taken away during the winter for renovation and replacement works.

Paul Weaver, committee member of Friends of the West Shore, built the box in his home workshop, before his wife, Jo painted it and added the lettering.

He said: “The beach toy library was an idea brought up by one of our members at our regular bi-monthly public meetings at The Lilly early last year.

“Friends of the West Shore are constantly trying to improve West Shore by whatever means, so we decided to see if we could build our own version.

“It survived all through the summer and autumn, and we then took it in for the winter and renovated and replaced some rotten bits, then washed all the toys and had it out this year ready for Easter.”

Throughout the course of last year, Paul said, it was used almost daily.

He encouraged anyone with any spare toys to consider donating them to the box.

Paul added: “While we've seen other initiatives vandalised, it seems that the toy library has been spared.

“It was a real joy to see the excited look on children's faces as they realised they had free toys to play with!

“We also overheard parents explaining the idea of borrowing to their young children, who then seemed happy to return the toys as they left the shore.

“While it's a great success, we would love more toys, still, so if anyone has any spare at home, please feel free to just drop them into the box as you are walking past on the prom.”
