Unscheduled ‘low-impact’ roadworks has resulted in two unplanned road closures in an historic town in time for the tourist season.

Conwy County Council has closed two roads in Conwy so that power companies can carry out unscheduled works.

The council lists all scheduled roadworks on its roadworks news bulletin on its website.

But the council has closed Rosemary Lane, which adjoins Rose Hill Street – the main ring road through Conwy – as well as St Agnes Road linking the town to the village of Gyffin.

Conwy says Rosemary Lane will remain closed until May 5 while Manweb carries out work.

Scottish Power began emergency works on St Agnes Road on Monday, and the work is set to go on until Friday.

Cllr Sian Grady says several roads in the town are closing often due to ‘constant’ work by utility companies.

“It just seems to be Sychnant Pass Road, St Agnes Road, Upper Gate Street, and Mount Pleasant, and Llanrwst Road as well,” she said.

“Most of it (the work) is utilities, and there is not a lot the council can do about it. BT have been doing a lot of work in the area for various reasons.

“Upper Gate Street was closed because they were putting scaffolding up on that corner, but it came down pretty quickly.

“It always seems to be the same area of St Agnes Road, and I don’t know what the issue is there. I think a lot of people have work done and they are old utilities that need correcting.”

“But it is a nuisance. It seems to be constant. I don’t know how often they are closed, but those four roads (Sychnant Pass Road, St Agnes Road, Upper Gate Street, and Mount Pleasant) seem to be closed an awful lot.”

Manweb, Scottish Power, and Conwy County Council were contacted for a comment.
