SUPERMARKET company Lidl has revealed plans to open hundreds of new stores across the UK, including in Colwyn Bay and Llandudno.
Now in its 30th year, Lidl has today (April 30) published its plans to expand in Wales, including a list of towns it is targeting for new supermarkets.
Representing North Wales on this list are:
- Abergele
- Bangor (relocation)
- Broughton
- Caernarfon
- Colwyn Bay (relocation)
- Flint
- Gwersyllt (relocation)
- Holyhead (relocation)
- Llandudno
- Pwllheli (relocation)
- Rhyl
This follows a year of significant investment in Lidl’s infrastructure, during which it opened its largest global warehouse in Luton.
It has also completed of an extension to its Welsh distribution centre in Bridgend, meanwhile.
Currently, there are Lidl stores in North Wales in Llandudno Junction, Prestatyn, Mold, Colwyn Bay, Wrexham, Denbigh, Bangor, Porthmadog, Holywell, Pwllheli, and Anglesey.

Richard Taylor, Lidl GB chief development officer, said: “As we celebrate our 30th year, our commitment to ensuring that all households across the country have access to high quality produce at affordable prices is stronger than ever.
“We’re planning to open hundreds of new Lidl stores but ultimately see no ceiling on our ambition or growth potential.
“This is why we’re continuing to invest in new locations whilst exploring innovative routes to expansion.
“As we look ahead, we’re excited to welcome even more new shoppers to our existing stores, as well as those we’re planning to open across the country in the coming months and years.”
Should a site be successfully identified, the discounter will pay a finders’ fee of either 1.5 per cent of the total freehold purchase price, or 10 per cent of the first year’s rent for leaseholds.
This would equate to £22,500 for a completed £1.5million site purchase.
Since establishing itself in 1994, Lidl now has more than 32,000 employees, in excess of 960 stores, and 14 distribution centres in England, Scotland and Wales.
