A POPULAR café in Rhos-on-Sea is expanding.

COAST café bar & gift shop has acquired 1-3 Rhos Road, in Rhos-on-Sea, to add to their brand.

A statement on Facebook, on March 16, said: "We’re excited to share that we have now acquired 1-3 Rhos Road to add to the coast brand which links to the main café and gift shop here at Coast of Rhos-on-Sea.

"We will be opening the new space very soon."

Darren Randle, of Coast café bar and gift shop, told the Pioneer: "It will be an expansion of the café. It was part of the Rhos café when we opened seven years ago.

"This new premises will be the gift shop - it will be coastal themed and we can move more seats into the main café.

"We hope to open sometime after Easter."

Last year, Coast opened its new café near Craig-y-Don paddling pool.

Darren took on the tenancy of the premises previously leased by Alana Spencer, founder of Ridiculously Rich and winner of The Apprentice 2016.

Alana exclusively told the Pioneer at the time that she was 'quitting' the site after two years as she wanted to concentrate on "online sales".

"The business in Craig-y-Don is doing ok," Darren added.

"We made it through the winter but we are looking forward to the paddling pool opening."

Last April, Conwy County Borough Council confirmed it would be not be reopening its paddling pools in Craig-y-Don, Llanfairfechan, Penmaenmawr and Rhos-on-Sea for the summer due to a "high risk of people slipping".

They have confirmed that all four paddling pools will reopen this summer [following refurbishment].

Cllr Aaron Wynne, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure said: “I’d like to reassure residents that we’re committed to getting the work completed at all sites for the benefit of those living and visiting our county.

"Whilst we understand the disappointment caused last year we are pleased that we have been able to invest to protect the future of all four of our paddling pools and look forward to opening them.”
