A NEW 'plant powered' café which opened its doors in Llandudno last month has secured a five food hygiene rating.

Pip & Oat opened on Saturday, February 3, at a unit on Clonmel Street. This was previously occupied by Precious Memories Photography.

The top five-out-of-five food hygiene rating was handed to the cafe by the Food Standards Agency.

Owner Sara Turner, who also owns Green Island Bistro on Rhuddlan High Street, said: "Our first month of trading has been excellent, especially with it still being the quiet season, and I am so proud to have achieved a five star hygiene rating.

"The staff and myself have been working so hard to ensure all standards are met and that our customers are guaranteed a safe environment to come to."

Sara recently raised concerns on social media about customers bringing their own food on site which is not plant based / vegan.

She stressed that this is a "very small" number of people.

She posted on Facebook: "We've have had a few incidents in the last few weeks of customers bringing their own food onsite that are clearly not plant based / vegan. It has varied from a chocolate bar to a Babybel.

"Please do not bring non-vegan food or food containing nuts onto our premises to consume. Lots of our customers and staff come to us because they have allergies or want a safe environment to eat and customers bringing non vegan food onsite jeopardises this. Thank you for your co-operation."

Sara told the Pioneer: "We have a had a few people but must stress, only a few being their own food onto the premises that compromises our environment.

"Now we have addressed this, hopefully it won't happen again in the future."

The new cafe serves a range of light bites, hot food, cakes, snacks, coffees, teas and cold drinks. All food and drink is plant based and nut free and there are gluten free options.

The cafe is also dog friendly.
