AN APPEAL has been made for people to wear odd socks for charity later this month in memory of a woman from Colwyn Bay who died last year.
Ellen Worstencroft, who ran her own business in the town, died aged 27 on April 7, 2023 after sadly taking her own life.
In her memory, a community interest company, entitled Ellen’s Wishes, was set up last October.
Her mother, Alison McMillan, has asked if people could wear odd socks – a trait of Ellen’s – on what would have been her 28th birthday, March 24, and make a £2 donation to the organisation in doing so.

Alison said: “Ellen was a kind, helpful and thoughtful person who would always help whoever she could whenever she could.
“When she died, those closest to her knew that they wanted to do something in her name - something that would continue to help in the way she did - and in her memory.
“So, in late 2023, we set up Ellen's Wishes. Through fundraising and donations, we aim to make life a little bit more comfortable for people and animals where we can.”
So far, Ellen’s Wishes has made donations to various good causes and wants to continue helping others in Ellen’s name.
Those who would like to take part in the fundraiser on March 24 are also asked to send the company pictures of them wearing odd socks via Facebook.

Alison added: “Ellen was well-known for her love of wearing odd socks, so on March 24, we are asking people to wear odd socks in her memory and to donate £2.
“She would give her last pound to anybody, so this was just about: ‘How can we keep that going? What can we do just to try and make life a little bit nicer?’
“I’m not trying to change the world, and we’re not going to be able to do an awful lot because we’re relatively small, but it’s just about trying to make life nicer for people.”
