A MAN from Conwy who twice attacked his ex-partner, before later repeatedly sending her threatening messages, has been jailed.
Paul Jones, 52, of Rhyd-y-Foel, Betws-yn-Rhos, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment at Mold Crown Court today (February 19).
He had previously been convicted of two counts each of intimidating a witness and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one charge of engaging in coercive behaviour.

Prosecuting, Karl Scholz told the court that, in October 2020, Jones was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, for inflicting grievous bodily harm.
But on February 2, 2022, he punched his former partner to the nose, as well as stamping on and kicking her, until she eventually left the caravan they were in to spend the night in a hotel.
On May 25, 2022, after accusing her of smoking, Jones pushed her to the floor before repeatedly punching her face, as well as cutting her arm with a key.
She then went to her parents’ home, but such was the damage caused to her face by Jones’ attack, the court heard, that her father did not initially recognise her.
Both attacks took place while Jones was under the influence of alcohol.
He then later sent her a “barrage” of abusive messages, including telling her that she would “not be going to Heaven”.
His ex-partner took this as a threat on her life, saying: “I believed he would kill me.”
She said that Jones’ actions had a detrimental impact on her mental health, and that she would fear Jones was outside her home whenever she would hear noises.
Defending, James Coutts said Jones, who had not previously been jailed, “does work hard” and is “able to live a positive life”.
Jones was said to have “applied himself well” during his time remanded in custody, including working as a working supervisor.
He also suffers from mental health difficulties, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, and seizures.
Sentencing, Judge Rhys Rowlands said that it is “very, very obvious” that Jones is a man who has “a problem with women”.
“He’s a man who thinks he knows best,” Judge Rowlands said.
Jones was also handed a 10-year restraining order, preventing him from contacting his ex-partner, her sister or her parents in that time.
