RYAN REYNOLDS and more have shown their support for a football legend after the latter received some great news this week.

Mochdre-born Mickey Thomas was diagnosed with stomach cancer in January 2019 and began treatment the following month.

He was given the all clear some years later but had a CT scan earlier this week to check for any signs of the cancer returning.

Thankfully, the 69-year-old revealed that it was 'great news' when tests returned.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news, Mickey wrote: "Just received great news on my CT scan. All clear again no signs of the big C."

He added: "I will soon hit the 5 year landmark of winning my battle. Thinking of all those people just starting on their personal journey. Keep positive - Keep Fighting."

Wrexham AFC co-chairman Ryan Reynolds replied to that by saying: "Congrats Mickey!!!!"

Wrexham AFC added: "Great news, Mickey."

Another one of Mickey's former clubs, Manchester United, also Tweeted him saying: "Great news, Mickey — sending you our best wishes."

Turf landlord Wayne Jones also sent his best wishes, adding: "So so pleased for you Mickey!"

In his playing days, winger Mickey famously scored the equaliser with a superb free-kick when Wrexham, then of the fourth tier, knocked out league champions Arsenal in the 1992 FA Cup third round.

He went on to make almost 300 appearances in two spells at The Racecourse and was a member of the famous 1977/78 promotion winning side.

He made his final appearance for Wrexham as a 38-year-old in 1993.

Mickey also played for Everton, Brighton, Stoke, Chelsea, West Brom, Derby, Shrewsbury and Leeds.

He won 51 caps for Wales and spent three years at Manchester United between 1978 and 1981, making more than 100 appearances for the Red Devils while being a huge fans’ favourite.
