A MOCHDRE-based construction company who collapsed last year has left an enormous trail of debt.

Brenig Construction, which was created in 2012 by Mark Parry and Howard Vaughan, entered into voluntary administration late last year.

The company worked on high profile, award-winning development, construction and civil engineering projects in North Wales and throughout the UK.

James D Robinson, of Finn Associates, and Patrick Lannagan, of Mazars LLP, appointed as joint liquidators of the company on December 18, 2023. The company's registered office address changed from Brenig House, Parc Busnes Cartrefi Conwy Business Park, Station Road, Mochdre to Finn Associates, Tong Hall, Tong Lane, Bradford.

On Companies House, a 'statement of affairs' has been published. This reveals the debts that have been left including more than £850,000 to HMRC VAT / PAYE / CIS. They also owe £285,803.00 to 45 employees and have director loans totalling £530,000.00.

When it comes to trade creditors, £5,501,168.46 is owed. There is a huge list of affected businesses which includes Conwy County Borough Council (£48,430.84); Dragon Drilling (Water) Ltd in Corwen (£29,195.15); RPC Contracts Ltd in Ruthin (£87,480.02) and MKM Building Supplies Llandudno Junction (£181,799.99) just to name a small few.

It is understood liquidators will realise £470,350.00.

The estimated total deficiency (as regards members) is about £5.4million.

It is likely that trade creditors will be left out of pocket.

Brenig Construction was the principal contractor for Denbighshire County Council’s Llwyn Eirian scheme in Denbigh.

A spokesperson for the council said last year: "The council will be working with the liquidator, and seeking alternative arrangements to ensure that the development can be completed at the earliest opportunity.”

They had been awarded the contract to carry out the Plas Penrhyn affordable homes project by Gwynedd-based housing association, Adra.
