A NEW sign at Happy Valley has been heavily criticised by residents.

The sign reminds people not to swim in the stream and states 'no swimming, no paddling, no access.'

Conwy County Borough Council put the sign in place following risk assessments of all open spaces sites that have water, ponds and streams, but a lot of residents have termed the sign as "ugly" and a "waste of money."

Taking to public group You know you are from LLandudno if you..... on Facebook, one person asked: "What stream?"

Another person said: "Could have made a better effort, so ugly in such a lovely area, who authorised this? Horrid!"

Another wrote: "Three months early for an April fools."

Another commented: "Absolutely ridiculous. It's not deep enough to swim in. Health and safety gone mad."

Whilst another person said: "I think you’ll find it’s been put there because of insurance and in this day and age of blame culture then I’m really not surprised. Same with the paddling pools, all because someone claimed because their child slipped so now they have to have a non slip coating.

"We spoilt it for ourselves."

A spokesperson for Conwy County Borough Council said: "We carried out risk assessments of all our open spaces sites that have water such as ponds, pools and streams, taking into account people’s behaviour around water and ice and the danger of drowning.

"As a result, we have put up these signs to inform people how to stay safe.

"The signs include thin ice warnings for when this is relevant."
