A TOTAL of 31 projects in Conwy are to benefit from a share of more than £20million from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

The UKSPF is a central pillar of the UK Government’s Levelling Up agenda and will provide £2.6billion of funding for investment across the UK by March 2025.

Conwy was awarded an allocation of more than £20m to invest and spend by March 2025, with successful projects including initiatives that promote adult numeracy, enhance the employability of people with a sensory loss, and improve community facilities.

All projects will need to be fully completed and claimed by December 31, 2024 at the latest.

Cllr Nigel Smith, Conwy County Borough Council’s cabinet member for sustainable economy, said: “I’m delighted that these projects will be able to do vital work in, and with, our communities thanks to this funding - I wish them every success.”

Robin Millar, Aberconwy MP, added: "Local groups, businesses and public services reach deep into the heart of our communities in Aberconwy.

“I am delighted that these UK Government funds are being shared with them directly, in support of their invaluable work.

“I look forward to meeting the groups working Aberconwy to thank them personally.

“These grants follow last year’s £18.6m Levelling Up grant for the Mor i’r Mynydd Active Travel route between Glan Conwy and Betws-y-Coed – and before that, almost £2m of UK Government funds that was provided in Community Resilience funding.”

David Jones, MP for Clwyd West, said: “The award of the £20m+ additional funding from HM Government is excellent news for the people of Conwy.

“Coupled with the Levelling Up Fund, it is one of the Government’s levers for helping ensure that areas such as ours, which have experienced challenges, are given the opportunity to improve the lot of their residents.”

Darren Millar, Clwyd West MS, added: “This is fantastic news for communities in Conwy and is a huge cause for celebration for the 31 projects set to benefit.

“All places have their challenges, with affluence and deprivation often coexisting, and the UKSPF was introduced to help tackle this and level up the country.

“UKSPF is a predictable, long-term funding stream which local leaders are free to use as they see fit to unleash their unique potential.

“They can focus on what works best for their communities, including in new and innovative combinations, unshackled by previous EU restrictions.

“The £20m for Conwy will empower our local communities and  I am confident it will make a real difference on the ground and change lives.”
