A GROUP of students from Coleg Llandrillo visited Anwyl’s new development in Llandudno to see how a busy construction site operates.

About 30 trainees visited Parc Bodafon, over two sessions, and met with members of the Anwyl team, including site manager Bleddyn Jones, area construction manager John Wilson and health and safety advisor Lewis Moroney.

All of the students who visited are studying towards their BTEC level 3 in construction management.

The two-year course sets up participants for a professional career within the built environment and many go on to work with the field of architecture, civil engineering and housebuilding.

Colin James-Davies, course tutor, said: “Both site visits went extremely well. It was brilliant for the students to see how a working site operates and see so much of what was going on. Some of the students had never been to a site before so it was the perfect opportunity for them to get a real feel for being on site, what it looks like, what it sounds like, and how cold it can be.

“The team from Anwyl were great, and we’d like to thank them for hosting us. We were given a health and safety induction by Lewis and John explained everything that was happening on site and answered lots of questions from the students throughout the visit too.”

Anwyl is building 49 homes, including 17 affordable homes, at the four-acre site, off Nant-y-Gamar Road. Construction work began in May and the first homes will be ready to move into in early 2024.

Site plans and layouts for individual house types are available to view at the on-site sales centre.

John Wilson, Anwyl area construction manager, said: “We enjoyed hosting the students from Coleg Llandrillo. It was great to have so many of them asking questions and keen to learn more about the processes and procedures that take place on a busy housebuilding site.

“This is a really exciting site and we look forward to welcoming them back for another visit soon, so they can see the progress of our work here and hopefully see some of the homes through to completion.”
