A DISCOUNTED retailer is pulling down the shutters on their branch in Colwyn Bay in what has been described as another "blow" to the town.
Poundland, in the BayView Shopping Centre, is set to shut on January 5 2024.
The retailer said they are unable to renew the lease at Colwyn Bay.
The news of the closure comes just days after Boots revealed it will close stores in Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea next year; The company confirmed their pharmacy in Rhos will shut in March, with the Station Road store in Colwyn Bay set to close in April, as part of 300 Boots store closures across the UK.
Boots Pharmacy, on 17 Queen's Road, Llandudno, also closed to customers on July 22.
A spokesperson for Poundland said: "Poundland is opening over 80 new stores in just 70 days this quarter, but I’m afraid we’ve been unable to renew the lease at Colwyn Bay, so it will sadly close in the new year on January 5.
"It goes without saying we’ll be doing everything we can to look after our colleagues at Colwyn Bay – we have a number of open positions at nearby stores.
"It’s always disappointing to have to leave a store , but we look forward to continuing to welcome customers to our Rhyl and Llandudno locations."
David Jones, MP for Clwyd West, said: "This is yet another blow for Colwyn Bay. It is a huge pity, given that the town was once one of the best shopping centres in North Wales.
"I have asked Conwy County Borough to discuss with me their proposals for regenerating the town centre and hope to meet them very soon."
Talking about the Boots closure, the MP added: "Pharmacies play an important role in the delivery of health care, and many people will be extremely worried as to how they will be able to obtain essential medicines.
