A LATE night shopping event will be held across Llandudno in December, which will see a host of businesses stay open past their usual hours.

The event, named Merry Mostyn Street 2023, will see stores, cafes and other businesses stay open from 4pm-8pm from December 13-16.

There will also be a town-wide Christmas window and decoration competition, as well as live music and other events in the churches and library in the town centre.

There will be a £250 top prize for the best Christmas window or frontage competition sponsored by Llandudno Town Council.

This will include the presentation of a historic trophy, with other prizes for runners up.

For those keen to finish off their Christmas shopping, a town trail map will be made available, telling people which stores and cafes etc will be open until late.

This trail map can be accessed by signing up using a QR code link provided by the group.

Friends of Mostyn Street, a community group who have created the event, said on social media: “A new tradition for Llandudno.

“This late night shopping event is focused on town businesses, community engagement and developing the visitor experience over the crucial festive season over the long term.

“This is a great opportunity for your business and for Llandudno as we are sure it will be wonderful for Llandudno as a town community and encourage visitors to return every year.”

The group said additional late night parking at the Victoria Centre will be provided by Mostyn Estates to support the event.

The sign-up deadline for businesses to take part is November 17, with decorations “ideally” up by December 1, the group added.

Gini Rivers, of the Friends of Mostyn Street, commented: “Friends of Mostyn Street was founded as a positive group focused on celebrating and boosting our town centre and our plan for late night Christmas shopping is a further step on the road to restoring Mostyn Street to its rightful place at the top of the tree.

“Our plans also hark back to the Christmas shopping experience many locals remember from the 80s and 90s.

“They also form part of 'Three Steps to Christmas' in Llandudno, which will begin with the Christmas Extravaganza on 16-19 November followed by the Christmas Parade on 2 December, then our late night shopping experience.

“This is a golden opportunity to make Llandudno a magical annual destination in the run up to Christmas, while also generating much needed business for local retailers and hospitality venues.

“We are determined that none of these four evenings will be a silent night for either locals, visitors or businesses!”
