A TEACHER has been struck off after he borrowed money and possessions from a pupil and various colleagues, which he did not repay or return promptly, while working in Conwy.

Michael David Lloyd had his name removed from the Register of Education Practitioners on September 21, following a hearing led by the Education Workforce Council’s Fitness to Practise Committee.

The three-day hearing resulted in the following allegations being proven against Mr Lloyd while working at Coleg Llandrillo, Rhos-on-Sea:

  • In approximately October or November 2021, he requested and borrowed money from a pupil, and did not provide tyres that the pupil had paid for in a timely manner.
  • In approximately October 2021, he borrowed tools from his employer, but failed to return and replace the them when requested to do so.
  • On various dates, he borrowed money from colleagues, and/or asked for a loan of money from a total of five different colleagues.
  • He did not repay one or more of the aforementioned financial loans in a timely manner.

Having made these findings, the committee found that Mr Lloyd “did not act with integrity”, and imposed a prohibition order upon him.

Mr Lloyd can also not make an application for restoration to the Register of Education Practitioners until September 21, 2025 at the earliest.

He has the right of appeal to the High Court within 28 days.

Grwp Llandrillo Menai, the umbrella organisation overseeing North Wales including Coleg Llandrillo, declined to comment when approached.
