I WENT down to Blods Coffee Corner in Colwyn Bay to take on their new Man Vs Food-esque meal, the aptly named Devil’s 666 Challenge.

The name alone is daunting, and for good reason – it consists of two full plates of fry up breakfast, with six of each item.

Six sausages, streaks of bacon, hash browns, and black puddings, half a plate covered in beans and half of another in tomatoes and mushrooms.

If this wasn’t enough, I was also given six slices of toast, kindly cut into halves by my host (making the task seem impossible).

The Devil’s 666 is the idea of owners Tyler Booker and her partner James Jones, who took over the site in March 2023.

You get 30 minutes to complete the £20 challenge, and if you do so, your picture is added to the wall of fame in the café – this currently lies empty (I was even the first person to take the Devil’s 666 on).

The café immediately put me at ease, with steady custom and the kindness of the staff giving a homely feel.

When the food arrived, I knew my task was hopeless – mentally giving up when I spotted the second plate.

I could find no faults with the food (other than black pudding, which is overrated), with the eggs cooked just the way I like them (not too runny) – but the sheer quantity was too much to take on.

I almost got through one of the plates, save for some tomatoes, and had around a quarter of the toast, with customers nearby willing me on, until I could do no more.

Tyler, who told me of a man who had completed a similar challenge in 16 minutes, said of my attempt: “I think you did pretty well, you smashed through the first bit quite quickly and then it started to catch you, when it starts processing.

“I think if I was doing it I would go for the bread first, the hash browns first, and I would not have had a coffee, I would’ve stuck with just water.”
